Freebridge Community Housing gets one star from watchdog

On a scale from zero to three stars the Audit Commission inspection team gave the King's Lynn-based organisation a 'fair' one-star rating. It provides a customer-focused service and performance in most key areas is improving.

Mark Elsworth, Lead Housing Inspector for the East region, said:
'Freebridge Community Housing is providing services that its customers wish to receive. It is on target to meet the promises made when it was set up, and is working with its residents to see how services can be improved or better delivered. Performance is on the up and the challenge now is to ensure that improvement is continuous and sustained.'

Strengths include:
• It is easy to access services and customers receive a responsive service from staff
• Clear progress is being made to meet the government’s decent homes standard by the target date of 2012
• Performance on income and rent arrears collection is good
• Performance is improving in most key areas

Areas for improvement include:
• FCH cannot show how it is performing in some key customer service areas as service standards are not in place;
• Tenant satisfaction with services overall is low
• More work is needed to provide value for money in areas such as the management of empty properties and in responsive repairs

Recommendations include:
• Improving access to services and standards of customer care
• Doing more to provide services that reflect and meet the diverse needs of tenants
• Improving the process of re-letting housing and reducing turnaround times.
