Freebridge Tenants Benefit from Extra Security
Free state-of-the-art security marking has been carried out in every home in Orchard Close to deter opportunist thieves and reassure householders.
The initiative, led by Dersingham and Gayton Safer Neighbourhood Team, follows a £20,000 investment in Selecta DNA by West Norfolk police to provide additional security to selected residential areas and burglary victims.
Inspector Dave Buckley said: "Selecta DNA provides permanent and unique security marking to property and valuables and means stolen property recovered by police can be quickly identified and traced to its rightful owner – even years on.
"Our initiative aims to offer additional reassurance to householders who have been affected, to prevent those homes from being targeted again, and to enhance security in potentially vulnerable areas.
"It also means those people who are more vulnerable do not have to meet the cost."
The Dersingham and Gayton Team worked with Freebridge Community Housing to offer the service to all tenants in Orchard Close, an area previously targeted by thieves and distraction burglars.
The security marking is accompanied with signs warning potential thieves homes are marked with Selecta DNA.
Dersingham and Gayton Sergeant Andy Crown added: "Security marking using Selecta DNA makes these properties less attractive to thieves and provides residents with the assurance that we are doing something positive to protect them."
Resident Sam Gaskin said: "We have a good relationship with the PCSOs who often visit us to give advice and I'm pleased we've all been given some extra security for our homes."
