Working for Freebridge Community Housing

Recruitment and Selection Policy

Freebridge Community Housing was awarded the Positive about Disabled People symbol in January 2009.
In order to act positively in our employment of people with disabilities and to comply with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act, Freebridge has made the following five commitments:

  • To interview all applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities;
  • To ask employees with disabilities at least once a year what we can do to make sure they can develop and use their abilities at work;
  • To make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment.
  • To take action to ensure that key employees develop the awareness of disability needed to make these commitments work;
  • Each year, to review these commitments and what has been achieved, plan ways to improve on this and communicate progress and future plans to all employees;

The award of the accreditation is reviewed annually when Freebridge Community Housing has to demonstrate to Jobcentre Plus what action it has taken to meet the five commitments - this is an ongoing commitment.
