Discovery Centre opens to support local families

26/10/20

Freebridge Community Housing supported the community this weekend by opening up the doors of its Discovery Centre in North Lynn to allow people from the local ‘Angels of King’s Lynn’ group to co-ordinate the distribution of food parcels to local families.

The community centre on Columbia Way acted as a drop off point for people to donate food throughout Sunday morning, and then families who needed help were invited to go along during the afternoon.

It’s all part of the national campaign led by footballer Marcus Rashford to ensure that #nokidsgohungry during half term as free school meals aren’t provided outside of term time.

Huge amounts of food was provided from local businesses and nearby residents, and hundreds of bags were prepared and packed by a team of volunteers. The parcels include a variety of things including bread, milk, pasta, potatoes, sandwich fillings and fresh vegetables.

Remaining bags are available to be collected from both of Freebridge’s Placeshaping centres today (Monday 26th October) between 8am - 4pm, at the Providence Street Community Centre near Hillington Square and the Discovery Centre on Columbia Way in North Lynn.
