Wellbeing support for Freebridge Sheltered Schemes

22/01/21

Some of West Norfolk’s older residents are keeping active and happy thanks to Winter Wellness Packs from Freebridge Community Housing.

The first batch were delivered to those living on some of Freebridge’s sheltered schemes in Gaywood, Downham Market and Terrington St Clement last week, with more heading out this week.

They include things like bird feeders, seeds to plant, soaps, chocolates, puzzle books, tea/coffee and biscuits, all donated from local charities and businesses.

The scheme has been organised by Freebridge’s Placeshapers who would normally be running the Community Centres at Providence Street and Discovery which are currently closed. They started planning the packs before Christmas, as part of the housing association’s Winter Support Plan, and with the latest lockdown announcement in January they’ve become more important than ever.

Freebridge Director of Housing Sophie Bates said: “Throughout the pandemic we’ve been keeping in regular contact with our older tenants and those living alone to make sure that they have everything they need. Working with our partners we’ve ensured that they have access to essentials like food and medicine and so the focus has now moved to making sure that they have things to boost their wellbeing and keep them busy.”

The packs were put together and delivered following strict COVID-19 contact free procedures.
