How the Freebridge Community Fund Helped Docking Playing Fields Become a True Community Hub

2025-06-19

Thanks to the grant from the Freebridge Community Fund, Docking Playing Fields has transformed it’s Pavilion into a space that truly brings people together.

The funding allowed the group to refurbish key areas of the building, making it more accessible and welcoming for all. “We were able to have new vinyl coverings in the toilets, one of which is now accessible,” the team shared. “We also had new carpet tiles in our meeting area and new vinyl to complete our kitchen area.”

The improvements have made a big difference. What was once an underused space is now a busy hub for local activities. “We were never able to provide this before,” they said. “Now Docking Rangers Football Club use the facility on training and match days, and they’re able to sell drinks and food to support their club.”

But it’s not just football that benefits. A local craft group, Coastal Crafters, holds regular workshops there, and the space has even been booked for birthday parties. A singing duo uses the Pavilion for practice sessions, and more community groups are expected to follow.

This transformation is exactly what the Freebridge Community Fund is all about – helping local organisations bring positive, lasting change to their communities.
